Makes it seem like you can't disagree. Quite the opposite
It's really not about agreeing/disagreeing but rather understanding that not everyone who watches football knows the game up and down from head to toe.
This isn't aimed at you or Lung by the way, just a general attitude here at the forum that's been around for as long as I can remember.
When you play a PV/Norton/Gretna I think you have have to bend and not break. Unless you've just straight up got the athletes to go after them. At the high school level make a team drive 80 yards on you, more times than not they wont do it they will turn it over, look at the GC/PV game. I dont think anybody on here will argue that PV had the superior athletes but they didn't have the patience to sit and throw check down routes. It takes a special QB to run the spread offense in high school, there is nothing wrong with throwing a 5-7 yard hitch. Every once in a while your going to break one and then when they quit giving the cushion go deep. PV never went short to force GC to come up Saturday. Football can be played two ways, knock down drag out I'm getting 3.5 yards and on 4th you cant stop me or lets spread em out and get 5-7 yards and then hit em deep when they come up. In upper levels of football it's obvious the spread is the way to go because your not just going to run the ball down a teams throat at the college or pro level. If you want to see something on a smaller scale as to what I'm talking about go watch the D4 semis this Friday, you've got hard nose Salem against quick as all get out where going to spread you out Amherst. My money is on Amherest. Not because entirely the scheme but there not small they can stop the run and run it but they also realize when you run the ball time comes off the clock. Ask Giles, they were dominate for 10-12 minutes but because of a penalty/bad play/whatever they couldn't score. When you run old school you better be a whole hell of a lot better than your opponent or you have the possiblity to lose. With the ability to throw the ball you can bury teams, ask PV/Norton. Each has it's pros and cons personally I'd like to be able to run it out of I/Split Back/Ace and then throw in several Gun formations that gives you the ability to run option/draws/and throw it at the same time. I just have a hard time believing a team that runs offense like Giles/GC can win a state title unless they are just so dominate they could compete at the next level AA.
I dont know how many people have access to this but if you do go watch PV from 04 and PV in 07. You want see the 04 team going deep a lot, sure we did it but we'd hit you short but we had the potential to break it. Bottom line is at any level you better be able to run and throw it, I've yet to see any team that couldn't at least make you respect one or the other win anything.
Lung as for the JV title I really think you guys should be D1, if you make it state you'll probably be playing a school as big as most D2 schools down here are anyway. I'm debating on whether to go to GC or not, I've got so many papers due this week it's insane but if you guys are in Salem I plan to be there, on the CW side.
